Our Case Study – Leak Find and Fix in Southsea, Specifically in Victoria Road South. Inside a shared migrant house, we were called in to tackle a serious water problem that had been causing ongoing disruption. The property had been suffering from two separate leaks, one of which was flooding the kitchen area and another that had appeared in one of the upstairs bedrooms. The challenge here was not only to stop the visible water but to trace the source quickly before any further damage occurred to the property.
The upstairs bedroom leak was identified fairly swiftly. On closer inspection, we discovered that the cause was deteriorated silicone sealant around the shower tray in the bathroom directly above. Over time, the sealant had perished and cracked, allowing water to escape every time the shower was in use. We removed the failed sealant completely, cleaned down the surfaces thoroughly, and applied fresh high-quality waterproof sealant. This straightforward repair stopped the leak immediately and prevented further damage to the ceiling below.
With the upstairs issue resolved, attention then shifted to the more serious kitchen problem. After removing the contents of the under-sink cupboard and carrying out an inspection, we found the entire space saturated with standing water. Alongside the pooling water, there was visible mould growth as well as green residue on the copper pipework. This green staining is a clear sign of copper oxidation, caused by ongoing water exposure and a slow leak from the pipework joints. The combination of damp, mould, and pipe corrosion made it essential to act quickly in order to restore the kitchen to a safe and usable condition.
After clearing the cupboard of pots and pans, cleaning up the water we discovered both the hot and cold feeds to be leaking, the pipework was knackered so we replaced all of it with copper and brass fittings. our plumbing service made quick work of this by pipe bending and matching the existing shapes of the previous pipework.
